We first encountered the Flutter framework while working on the Medcorder app .

Google product manager David Weekley approached us with an idea for a new

product — a service that would facilitate medical decision-making and information exchange between doctors and patients.

David’s father became ill and he found it difficult to evaluate different treatment

options during consultations with doctors and make informed decisions on the spot.

He began recording all the meetings and sending them to other family members. To

eliminate the “broken telephone” and help families going through similar difficulties,

David decided to create Medcorder.

Version history

David suggested developing in the Google ecosystem and trying out the new open-

source Flutter framework  in the Dart language for creating cross-platform

applications.

Before releasing the product, we wrote two versions. In the first, the user kept a

chronicle of visits, saved notes from the meeting, received a transcript of the audio,

could add photos and leave comments.

The second version of the application became available to all participants in the

process: the doctor, the patient and family members. The application acquired its own

design and identity. To work on the interface, we chose the built-in Material Design

widget. In addition, Flutter includes the Cupertino Widgets library, reminiscent of

Apple’s style, and if desired, you can create a custom UI unique to each platform.

Results of the work

In June 2018, the app was published in the Apple Store and Google Play. The

company soon raised $2.5 million in  botim database funding, and in early 2019,

David announced that he was stepping down from his position at Google and would

be fully committed to further developing Medcorder.

What We Learned About Flutter: The

Challenges

The Evrone team started working on Medcorder when Flutter was still in its early

stages, which was a big risk. As we  america cell phone number data address were

refining the app, Google was working on the framework. So we faced some challenges

in keeping the tooling up to date.

At the end of 2018, the Release Candidate of the framework took place, which became

another test. Updating to new versions of Flutter was not easy. It helped that our team has extensive experience in developing native applications, knowledge of

CocoaPods and Grade.
